ETH Dencun Upgrade Countdown: What Data Should You Focus On?
The Dencun upgrade helps pave the way for the future development of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Author: OKLink
On March 13, 2024, at 21:55 (epoch 269,568), Ethereum will complete the Dencun upgrade (Kiln-Deneb upgrade). OKLink Dencun Upgrade Portal 👉 oklink.com/eth/dencun-upgrade
The main objectives of this upgrade are to enhance scalability and modularity for Layer 2 networks, strengthen Ethereum's security features, and improve overall usability.
Why should you care?
After the Dencun upgrade, users will experience significantly lower transaction fees on Layer 2 networks, encouraging more transaction activity and supporting long-term growth of L2 ecosystems. Corresponding daily transaction volumes and counts on L2s are also expected to shift accordingly.

With substantially reduced transaction costs and increased throughput on Layer 2 networks, it is anticipated that a solid foundation and favorable environment will be provided for the development of Layer 2 networks and their application layers. Users can monitor L2 developments closely through metrics such as TVB, TVL, TPS, and address data.

What are Blobs?
Blob data can effectively reduce Layer 2 transaction fees and increase transaction throughput. However, blob storage is temporary, with data available for 4,096 epochs—approximately 18 days.
Why does OKLink store all blob data?
OKLink will securely store all blob data to ensure the safety and retrievability of historical records, supporting the healthy development of the Ethereum ecosystem. We welcome individuals and public blockchain teams with blob data needs to contact us.
What does the Dencun upgrade mean for the Ethereum ecosystem?
The Dencun upgrade paves the way for future development within the Ethereum ecosystem. EIP-4844 focuses on preparing for sharding, while other protocol improvements mark Ethereum’s progress toward building a scalable, decentralized, and globally accessible settlement layer.

Ethereum officially launched on July 30, 2015, ushering in a new era for decentralized applications (DApps). Let's take a look back at Ethereum's development roadmap:
