Move Toward the Future: The 2024 Developer Conference Sparks a Surge of Enthusiasm
On January 13 in Shanghai, a group of Move enthusiasts will attempt to build a culture meme exclusive to the Move community.

The "2024 Move Developer Conference: A Pivotal Year for the Move Ecosystem" will take place in Shanghai on January 13–14. Organized by MoveFuns, OpenBuild, and MoveBit, the event is co-hosted by Rooch, AptosGlobal, alcove, zkMove, TinTinLand, and YunSai Space, with sponsorship support from Aptos, Sui, and Amazon Web Services.
Notably, this Move Developer Conference will be the largest and the only offline gathering in China dedicated exclusively to the Move language ecosystem. As a new bull cycle emerges, and as the first major Web3 developer event of 2024, what tone will Move set for the year ahead?
Move: A New Era for Smart Contracts
Move, an emerging star in blockchain technology, stands out for its innovative approach to smart contracts. Renowned for enhanced security and efficiency, it introduces a resource-oriented programming paradigm that offers significant advantages in managing resources and assets on blockchains. Move’s design philosophy aims to fundamentally improve smart contract programming rather than simply replicating existing models.
Initially launched in 2019 by Facebook's team for the Diem stablecoin project, Move enjoyed a high-profile debut but was ultimately halted by regulatory challenges. Fortunately, former Diem developers began building two Move-based public chains—Aptos and Sui—starting in 2021, earning market favor through high performance and strong security. Meanwhile, Move has evolved into a decentralized programming language now adopted or being integrated by multiple blockchain infrastructures.
So where is Move headed in the new year? What breakthroughs can it bring to blockchain and Web3? Will fully on-chain gaming explode within the Move ecosystem? How secure is the Move ecosystem? How will it drive massive adoption in Web3? What role will inscriptions play in the Move ecosystem? And most importantly, has Move figured out what it wants to become?
On January 13 in Shanghai, a group of Move enthusiasts will come together to shape a unique cultural meme for the Move community. Core developers of the Move language, co-founders of Mysten Labs, Lead at Aptos Labs, co-founders of Rooch, MoveBit, and zkMove, along with other prominent figures, will gather at the "2024 Move China Developer Conference." The event will feature serious technical discussions alongside relaxed closed-door sessions, where participants will jointly explore current challenges facing Move and chart its path forward for 2024 and beyond.
As we reach the end, a quote by Bi Shumin comes to mind: "A person should be like an army, recruiting soldiers to their mind and soul—undaunted, called to purpose, loving freedom." Look at these members of the Move ecosystem—they started as individuals, then became a collective, an undaunted force. Starting from zero, driven by belief and purpose, they embrace the world and gradually build the Move developer community and culture, one step at a time.
One person walks fast; a group walks far. In 2024, are Move ecosystem developers and enthusiasts ready?
