How to Maximize Returns with Fren Pet: The Digital Pet on Base Chain
In the game, you need to take care of your pet to prevent it from dying; feeding it or cleaning it will extend the time until its death.

Hey friend, have you ever played Tamagotchi? If that name doesn't ring a bell, how about "pet egg" or "digital chicken"? Do you remember those little digital pets that would “die” if neglected? They were once wildly popular but faded into obscurity with the rise of smartphones. Now, Fren Pet is bringing them back—on Web3. Will you pay for this nostalgic “digital chicken” on-chain?
As mentioned, Fren Pet is a digital pet-themed Web3 game built on the Base chain. The developers have also promised to roll out a new feature every week as long as players remain active.
Fren Pet launched on August 31, but for over two months afterward, it attracted little attention and was largely seen as just another clone with a user experience similar to FriendTech. That changed on November 18, when Coinbase Wallet tweeted about the game, suddenly drawing widespread attention to it.

Like other Base-based games you're familiar with, Fren Pet is accessed by “adding to home screen” (similar to FriendTech, no app download required), and requires an invite code plus some ETH transferred in to begin playing.
Currently, minting a pet costs 100 FP, but this 100 FP is refunded automatically whenever someone else mints a pet.
In the game, you must care for your pet to prevent its death. Feeding or cleaning your pet extends its time-to-die (TOD). On your pet’s page, you’ll see various food and cleaning options, which require spending $FP tokens to use.
At the top of your pet’s page is a TOD (time-of-death) countdown timer. Once your pet dies, your NFT is burned and all your points reset to zero.
The game also features a shop where you can buy accessories to customize your pet, or in-game items such as shields that protect against “Bonk” attacks (explained below), and insurance that automatically revives your pet when its TOD runs out and it dies.

All items are traded using a linear bonding curve priced in $FP.
Points represent your pet's level. You earn points by feeding or bathing your pet—for example, giving tea grants 1 point and adds 3 days to TOD, at a cost of 1 FP. The higher your points, the greater your ETH rewards and the better your ranking on the leaderboard.

You may also choose to cash out all your points for ETH at once, though doing so will reset your pet’s level to zero.
Beyond basic pet care, the game includes two additional ways to earn points: 1) Spinwheel and Dice; 2) Bonk.
The spinwheel is a free way to earn points, available once every 24 hours. Spinning can grant you points—or nothing. The dice game has a higher barrier: participants must pay 100 FP to join. Each round includes six players, with 100 FP burned from the pool and the remaining 500 FP awarded to the winner.

Bonk is a PvP gameplay mode—essentially pet battles. Every 15 minutes, you can attack a player ranked higher than you who hasn’t been Bonked within the last hour. You have a 40% chance to win, while higher-level opponents have a 60% chance. The winner gains 0.5% of the loser’s points.
Point Farming Strategies
The above outlines the ways to earn points in-game, leading to two distinct farming strategies: low-cost players and high-spending players.
Low-Cost / Free-to-Play Players
1. After minting a pet, your 100 FP (most likely) will be refunded.
2. Keep your pet alive at minimal cost—feed tea daily. Tea costs only 1 FP, grants 1 point, and adds 3 days to TOD.
3. Spin the wheel once per day.
4. (Optional) Press “Bonk” every 15 minutes to attack other players on the leaderboard, aiming to win 0.5% of their points. Target players with at least 50% more points than you to maximize returns. Feed tea promptly when your pet is near death.
High-Spending Players
1. Spin the wheel daily.
2. Buy items from the shop to decorate and protect your pet and your points.
3. Feed your pet beer to gain 1,000 points and add 6 hours to TOD. Beer costs 50 FP.
4. Choose to be the defender rather than the attacker—defenders have a 60% chance to win.
FP Tokenomics
The team has reserved zero FP tokens. Of all $FP used in-game, 90% is burned and 10% is distributed to players who continuously bring in new users. In other words, if someone enters the game via your invite code and spends money, you receive a 10% reward.
Every time someone buys or sells $FP on BaseSwap, a 5% tax is applied. Once the accumulated tax exceeds 1,000 $FP, the contract automatically converts it to ETH and distributes it as follows:
-
2% distributed as rewards to players (higher points = larger ETH share; individual payout = player points / total points of all players)
-
2% allocated to Fren Pet developers
-
1% added back as liquidity to support the FP economy
Since Coinbase Wallet’s tweet on the 18th, FP’s price has surged from 0.1 to 1.4—a more than 10x increase. According to on-chain data, the initial liquidity pool consisted of 9,956,000 FP and 1 WETH, equating to a unit price of approximately $0.0002—representing nearly a 7,000x increase.
Given current game热度, mechanics are still evolving. The recent V2 update clearly shows the developers are actively improving the game—adding more items, introducing DNA evolution mechanisms, and more. As previously stated, the team promises weekly updates as long as players stay active. Even if they simply adapt elements from classic digital pet games, Fren Pet still has a journey ahead.
For on-chain digital pets, we’re still in the early days. Whether you choose to enjoy the game or participate in token trading, make your decision based on your own risk tolerance.
