April 6 to April 9, the 2024 Hong Kong Web3 Festival is officially announced!
The 2024 Hong Kong Web3 Festival will be held from April 6–9, 2024, at Hall 3FG of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Navigating Web3 tides with focused insights
On November 3, Xiang Feng, Chairman of Wanxiang Blockchain and Chairman & CEO of HashKey Group, officially announced at Hong Kong Fintech Week that the "2024 Hong Kong Web3 Festival," co-organized by Wanxiang Blockchain Lab and HashKey Group and hosted by W3ME, will be held from April 6 to 9, 2024, at Hall 3FG of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The inaugural Hong Kong Web3 Festival took place from April 12 to 15, 2023, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. As one of the world’s largest Web3 events, it featured nearly 200 satellite events, attracted over 50,000 offline participants, brought together more than 300 globally influential speakers, and hosted over 100 leading projects. It was widely recognized by the industry as a milestone event in the history of Hong Kong's Web3 development.
In recent years, Hong Kong’s Web3 sector has advanced rapidly. From Hong Kong’s release of the “Policy Statement on Development of Virtual Assets in Hong Kong” in 2020 to HashKey Exchange becoming the first officially licensed virtual asset service provider, Hong Kong is firmly committed to its goal of becoming an international hub for innovation and technology, actively promoting the establishment and growth of Web3 in the region.
Representatives from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and official institutions, including Christopher Hui, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR; Ken Cheuk, Legislative Council Member (Innovation and Technology); Dr. Sunny Chai, Deputy Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry; Kitty Fung, Deputy Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Dr. Victor Chan, Chairman of Cyberport; Joseph Chan, Assistant Chief Executive (Monetary Management) of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (former); Raymond Choi, Interim Head of Intermediaries Supervision Department (Chair of FinTech Facilitation Group) of the Securities and Futures Commission; Peter Yan, CEO of Cyberport; Simon Liang, Fintech Lead of Invest Hong Kong; and Olivia Ho, Director of STP Platform at Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, made collective appearances at the first Web3 Festival. Several delivered speeches offering in-depth analysis of Hong Kong’s talent development initiatives and support policies for Web3 enterprises, helping projects considering relocation better understand the opportunities and risks involved.
After more than a decade of development, blockchain is transitioning from infrastructure building to large-scale application, with Web3 serving as its ultimate use case. The inaugural Hong Kong Web3 Festival featured one main stage and four parallel tracks, bringing together global Web3 leaders such as Xiang Feng, Chairman of Wanxiang Blockchain and Chairman & CEO of HashKey Group; Hong, President of OKX; Chao Deng, Head of HashKey Singapore and CEO of HashKey Capital; Chris Yu, Co-founder & CEO of SignalPlus; Ming Zeng, Former Chief Strategy Officer of Alibaba; Feng Bo, Founder of Dragonfly.xyz; Wilson Tsai, Angel Investor and Chairman of Meitu; Juan Benet, Founder of Protocol Labs; Illia, Co-founder of NEAR; Yat Siu, Co-founder and Executive Director of Animoca Brands; Ben HE, CEO of imToken (listed in no particular order). These thought leaders explored key topics including AICG and privacy computing, Web3 security, infrastructure development, fintech, and DePIN ecosystems, helping practitioners and enthusiasts seize opportunities, master engagement strategies, and envision future innovations.
